8-Week Program

The Space Entrepreneur

An 8-week hands-on program focused on civilian and humanitarian space innovation - teaching students to design, plan, and pitch real space missions that solve problems on Earth and beyond.

All research stays within responsible civilian use. No weapons, no surveillance - only exploration, science, and humanitarian impact.

Mission & Market DiscoveryRequirements & Operations PlanningOrbit Selection & Coverage ModelingSystem Architecture & BudgetsCommunications & Ground SegmentReliability & Risk ReductionLaunch Planning, Timeline & CostRegulation, Sustainability & Final Pitch
Week 1
Mission & Market Discovery
Identifying who you serve and why space is the answer
  • Civilian & humanitarian uses of space technology
  • Choosing your customer, use case, and mission concept
  • Writing a 1-page Mission & Market Brief (buyer, problem, value)
  • Listing and ranking your top assumptions
  • Scope check: staying within responsible innovation guardrails
Week 2
Requirements & Operations Planning
Defining what your mission must do and how it works day-to-day
  • Setting measurable performance requirements and constraints
  • Mapping the operations concept: space to ground to end user
  • Creating a CONOPS (Concept of Operations) diagram
  • Identifying your top 10 mission-critical failure points
  • Data responsibility basics: what is collected and who can access it
Week 3
Orbit Selection & Coverage Modeling
Choosing the right path in space for your mission's needs
  • Understanding orbit types: LEO, MEO, GEO, and HEO
  • Matching orbit choice to customer and coverage needs
  • Simple coverage and revisit modeling with key assumptions
  • Comparing trade-offs between orbit options
  • Building a decision case: why your chosen orbit wins
Week 4
System Architecture & Budgets
Designing your first-pass spacecraft and ground system
  • Creating a system block diagram (payload, spacecraft bus, ground)
  • First-pass mass, power, and data budgets
  • Identifying key design trade-offs and constraints
  • Balancing performance goals with realistic engineering limits
  • Documenting architecture decisions for your team and reviewers
Week 5
Communications & Ground Segment
Building the end-to-end link from space to the people you serve
  • Designing the space-to-user data path (downlink and processing)
  • Planning ground operations: staffing, monitoring, and anomaly response
  • Understanding ground segment cost drivers
  • Operations concept for running the mission week to week
  • Responsible communications: modeling only, no real-world interference
Week 6
Reliability & Risk Reduction
Figuring out what could go wrong and how to prevent it
  • Building a risk register: likelihood, impact, and mitigation plans
  • Simplified failure analysis (FMEA-lite) for key systems
  • Creating a test matrix: what to test, how, and pass/fail criteria
  • Make-or-buy decisions and supplier planning
  • Safety by design: choosing one feature that reduces misuse or harm
Week 7
Launch Planning, Timeline & Cost
Scheduling your mission and understanding the money it takes
  • Building a mission schedule (simplified Gantt chart)
  • Creating a cost stack: major budget categories and sensitivities
  • Identifying critical-path risks that could delay the mission
  • Understanding launch vehicle options and ride-share opportunities
  • Capital planning: how much funding and when it is needed
Week 8
Regulation, Sustainability & Final Pitch
Making your mission deployable, fundable, and responsible
  • Regulatory and spectrum licensing awareness (practical overview)
  • Space debris mitigation and deorbit planning for sustainability
  • Building a unit economics model: cost per service delivered
  • Preparing your final Mission & Market Dossier and investor pitch
